Tina Berning is an artist based in Berlin. Combining commissioned illustration work with personal artwork, she publishes and exhibits worldwide. Tina Berning develops her drawings on a daily basis by documenting them through her captivating virtual diary on social media.
In her drawings, Tina Berning constantly explores the network of relationships between a conditioned aesthetic and an assumed self-determination in the canon of contemporary visuality. Through her drawings and collages, she formulates her own image of the human body, its inadequacy and its fundamental relationship to beauty, expression and emotion. Her works explore studied gestures that refer to compulsion and repression. Berning's works are a commentary on the familiar presentation of the human being who, caught in the game between voyeurism and exhibitionism, willingly submits to the rules prescribed by the media. At the same time, her drawings document how dissonance is directly dependent on this convention.
