My dear Vincent:
"Like everyone else, I need friendship or affection or intimacy and am not like a street pump or lamppost, whether made of stone or iron…" Vincent van Gogh
Vincent van Gogh is now known as one of the best and most influential painters in art history. Born in Zundert where he was labeled as the most difficult child of the large family. And yet his family never turned their back on him.
With his brother Theo van Gogh as the protagonist, it was precisely his family that contributed to Vincent van Gogh's great fame, even if only after his death. By publishing hundreds of letters (by Jo Bongers, Theo's wife), the world became familiar with the eccentric and his works were (finally) appreciated.
It was these letters that touched Tahné Kleijn during her stay in the Van Gogh House in Zundert. She was allowed to live and work there for a month and be inspired by the painter himself. However, her heart went out to all those relatives who remained loyal to him. That's why she decided to put them in the spotlight. In 'Mijn Waarde Vincent' you can see Van Gogh's brother, mother and sisters (in-law) reading and writing to their brother and son. You see scenes that could have taken place, sometimes with some paintings in the background.
