Tanja Ritterbex (1985, NL)
Tanja Ritterbex has been called the ‘Lady Gaga’ of contemporary art. She makes bold paintings, alongside videos, performances, sculptures and installations. Her subject is most often herself as a human, woman, lover and recently young mother in an over stimulated world. Defined by herself as an absurdistische diary, whereby she doesn’t shy away from controversial and deeply personal subjects. Ritterbex mostly works in series, defining a specific field of interest corresponding with her daily life. She has made a series of 365 self portraits (a portrait a day for one year as one work) (collection Bonnefanten Museum); 365 drawings and paintings of her daily food as one work (collection LAM Lisse) and most recently drawings of her Uterus during the pregnancy of her daughter Frida.
Tanja Ritterbex lives and works in Berlin. She has been an artist in residence at the Ateliers in Amsterdam (2013-15), after receiving a BA in Fine Arts under Tal R. at the Art academy of Dusseldorf.
