SALIM BAYRI
Red Knock, 2018
Salim Bayri surrounds himself with an alter ego that he calls Sad Ali, a shortening of “sad alien”. This cartoon-like figure has no organs, undertakes no actions and doesn’t talk, opposite to a cartoon personality. As a kind of ambulant search machine he runs around checking out situations and things.
Galerie van Gelder presents work by SALIM BAYRI (1992, Casablanca) that was specially made for Rotterdam Art Fair / New Art Section 2019 in Rotterdam. Bayri has been lives and works in Amsterdam since January 2019 (participant Rijksakademie) and graduated from the Escola Massana in Barcelona and obtained a Masters degree in Art, Design and Technology from the Frank Mohr Institute in Groningen in 2017.
Salim Bayri was one of the four nominees for the NN Award 2018, together with Rafaël Rozendaal, Sam Samiee and winner Pauline Curnier Jardin.
