Marcel van Eeden this large-format drawing with compressed charcoal on canvas. He previously used the same material for the series "Stolen Paintings" about a theft of paintings from the Rijksmuseum by one of his characters Zigmund.
This drawing depicts a stable or barn in The Hague South, before large housing projects were realized here after the 2nd World War in the 1950s. In 1931 this area still mainly had an agricultural function. With broad pieces of charcoal he depicts the building and the text above it in bold, powerful lines.
Marcel van Eeden recently also made a series of charcoal drawings on canvas about the former gas factory in The Hague, based on a small sketch by Vincent van Gogh of the same gas holder.
The drawings and photos in gum print technique can be seen until December 11 in the exhibition "The Gasworks: Van Eeden & Van Gogh" at the Van Gogh Museum.
