Rain Calls, 2022

In 'Rain Calls' Dan Zhu depicts a green snailshell on which a double spiral descends. The spiral form is repeated in the brown background under the snail. As more often the work was developed from an earlier pice. Dan Zhu wrote the following poetic accompanying text for the work. A snail in the mud got calls from rain in early spring. The double helix signal of the calling is connected within one snail. Even a tiny body can be endowed with such power. Spring is equal to the desire of growing, so the rain penetrated the snail and left traces on the ground, responding to its own shape. Waves sculpt matter, body carves time. It was the calling from itself.
