The Seer, 2022

Folkert de Jong (1972) is known for his sculptures made with styrofoam and polyurethane foam. In recent years he also started working with ceramics and bronze. The Seer is a ceramic work of the larger-than-life face of a man. Because of the beard and the piercing eyes you associate him with an ancient prophet or god. The face is realistic and, due to its size, has the appearance of a classic monumental sculpture. In the smaller ceramic works, Folkert de Jong does the opposite by bringing classical mythological and religious back to human proportions by giving them everyday clothing or depicting them in a caricatural way.
