"Holding space is a conscious act of being present, open, allowing, and protective of what another needs in each moment. Lovingly keeping the space open for the other to find the way to growth or the solution to a problem, without wanting to fix or solve. After reading an article about this it kept me busy. How do I keep space for the other without filling in things for someone else, as I see it through my experiences? It asks to know myself well and that is a quest that I am constantly working on. While raising our child, 'holding space' for me means; standing back a bit sometimes and letting our son develop himself. There is a fine line here, when is it upbringing, when do I, as a parent, cross this line and try to steer my child how I like to see it myself? Because as a parent I do not want to control but want to be guiding. I saw this quality clearly in one of my son's toddler teachers. In this work she was the model. She adopts a receptive, blessing posture, allowing the balls to float playfully through space, between hands, head and heart. Without wanting to control but by allowing free flow while leading kindly in direction."
