Martin Fenne is a colorist par excellence, his figures are determined by colour. He often takes inspiration from famous painters like Giotto, Jan van Eyck or Piero della Francesca and their ways to use colours. For instance, for this artwork he refers to the colour scheme of the mosaics at the Mausololeum of Galla Placidia in Ravenna. In his typical technique of overlapping satin strips he composes the colour scheme with both subtly shading and contrasting colours.
