Recently Peter Vos shifted from his characteristic avian representations to expand his range of animal portraits. In Shakur he presents a black cat of nonchalant posture. The jagged and angled outline on the left side of its body follow Vos’ use of geometric lines to depict naturally softer anatomies -wether of birds or in this case, felines.
This stylization is accompanied by a partly alert, partly contemplative expression, not necessarily reflecting the animal’s inner state but the projection of our emotional condition onto other beings’ character.
