There are two kinds of impressions on Tobias Lengkeek's panels: those he makes with a brush and those he makes with his skateboard. The first type of impression is premeditated, stemming from the observation and selection of those everyday things that catch the artist's attention. Most of the time he finds things in a state of decay visually seductive. Tobias Lengkeek tries to capture the time between the current state of decay of things and their origin when they were still whole and intact. After painting these in-between images, Lengkeek installs the panels on skating ramps and the second type of impression takes place: he skates on his work and the wheels gradually leave arbitrary strokes, made by the artist but beyond his control.
Tree Trunk was one of the panels on the skate ramp that Tobias Lengkeek showed at the Prospects & Concepts exhibition curated by Johan Gustavsson for the Mondrian Fund at Art Rotterdam 2020.
