SALIM BAYRI
Galaxy S6, Life - Leeuwarden café, 2019
There is always a question at Salim, trying it out things or devices for which they are not directly made. As a result, his work always has a multiple aspect. In the 'Galaxy S6' series, he has reversed this approach.
He has made a nice, easy-to-handle thing that resembles a very recognizable device, namely a mobile phone. On closer inspection, you don't have a cell phone in your hand, but a gouache that is clamped between two plastic plates with four screws. There is no such thing as a screen at all.
Mixing old techniques with new images, such as here a gouache posing as a screen is one of the many moves that Salim Bayri uses in his work. Broadening the horizon by always trying things out. And everything can change.
