SIGURDUR GUDMUNDSSON, Audience, 2015
The work 'Audience' has a pronounced binary character; it is both sculpture and instrument for a performance that everyone can perform. It was created in a time when asylum seekers and travelers of non-European descent were screened more strictly at the borders, resulting in a marked growth of asylum seekers and xenophobia in Europe.
Sigurdur Gudmundsson is not an artist who makes political art, but during the last two decades his oeuvre is now and then extended with an engaged society related-work. This 'Living Sculpture' as he calls, is a powerful example of how he portrays supercooled human behavior in a soft-critical and contemporary way.
