Ruri Matsumoto (Tokyo 1981), master student of Katharina Grosse, transforms cities and landscapes into lines of light. She paints on canvas prepared with tape. The paint creeps under the tape and in the process of removing it, slivers remain and fragments of paint come off. Now her seemingly hermetic work becomes sensitive and expressive. Coincidence determines where strokes of paint are damaged - the artist decides when the transformation of location into light has been completed.
