JOHN M ARMLEDER, Untitled, 1991
When John Armleder had his second solo exhibition at Galerie van Gelder in 1991, he made three 'Pour paintings' on the spot on canvases that were very generously stretched by George Korsmit before his arrival.
A smaller canvas measuring 120 x 120 cm remained that was also ready for being worked on but did not fit into the exhibition. Yet John insisted on making a 'Splash painting'. From a kitchen staircase he dripped, à la Pollock as he himself says, various types of boat lacquer, gold and bronze lacquer paint, varnish and finally glitter dust onto the canvas that he had placed on the floor.
