ELVIRE BONDUELLE, Coffee table, 2019
In the work of Elvire Bonduelle, the theme of rest and relaxation plays an important role, with (interior-)architecture being one of her most common motifs. When she installs an exhibition she wants to create an environment in which the visitor can forget everyday worries for at least a while. A table, a vase of flowers, a lamp or a painting with painted waves hung on the wall should tempt the viewer to forget his or her worries for a moment. Not thinking about shopping to do, picking up the children from school or paying the mortgage. Even a soft-page book of cotton fabric with a painted wave on each page can help.
On the other hand, the work clearly has a tongue-in-cheek aspect as you get closer and realize that the coffee and salon tables are very shakily put together and can collapse at any moment when touched.
And a white vase or a blue elbow lamp is not only a vase and lamp with a high design content, but also made from found pieces of PVC sewage pipe.
