Paul van der Eerden (1954) and Romy Muijrers (1990) started their collaborative project SUITE in 2018, for which they produce collective drawings. One starts by making a first sketch or staining the paper, after which the other elaborates upon during several sessions until the drawing is completed. While Van der Eerden mainly works with strong, clear lines and contrasts, Muijrers’ approach is more detailed and softer by nature.
Many of the SUITE drawings intertwine figuration and abstraction. In SUITE 109, the lines delimiting anthropomorphic forms share the space with twirling shapes and corrugated patterns. At the same time, these shapes sneak onto the surface of the suggested bodies, adding visual layers and deepening the drawing. A dancer ? A three fingered hand ? What do you see when you look at SUITE 109 ?
