Mariana Paiva Rebola - °1995 - Portugal
Which kind of exhaustion do you prefer? How to prove oneself valuable - or just be truthful to our essence, as it shifts through puncturing circumstances - while dodging the pressure of criticism, and without losing a sense of identity, or risking extreme fatigue after senseless efforts?
Mariana Rebola (1995) takes on an intimate (female) approach to address these questions. After a BA in Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Porto, and an MA in Visual Arts at the LUCA School of Arts, her body of work has focused on refleting both one’s surroundings and a personal maturing process through the creation of visual metaphors for social anxieties, work-related unempowerment and the frustration of the still-prevalent concept of woman as passive eye-candy. She expresses these assimilated womanhood constraints through multiple visual media such as video, printmaking and painting.
