Sjoerd Buisman (1948) is occupied with trees and plants and the way they grow. Where others work with stone, clay, steel and other materials, Buisman looks for living materials for his so-called growth works. Just like the forces of nature, he forces the living material in a certain direction, eventually turning it into a work of art. The penetration into nature, off the beaten track, with the assignment to awaken nature as art, already make him and his growth works a unique phenomenon.
