“I use paint as medium and this is inevitably connected from the begin to the History of Art. To use an antique Greek statue, a XVII century portrait or a Dogon ceremonial mask in my compositions allows me to question our relationship to the portrait, forms of representation and their symbolism. Personally, it seems interesting to me to bring them back, play with these figurative codes, to imagine new histories. It is
important to me to be part of a historical continuum. And in this way question certain parts of our contemporary history. This lets me focus and situate myself in a broad open historical continuum. You could call my technique hybrid painting, feeding on
popular traditions as well. I am constantly going to and fro from different worlds and epochs. New technologies equally play a key role in my work as a painter and the
combination of techniques (painting, airbrush, print, textile printing...) permits me to questions all this visual patrimony in the contemporary field.”
