The Diffraction '19, Rain series is made with MEDION scanners (type MD5345, MD6228 and MD6274). When scanning outside during a rainy day, Jannemarein found out that this type of scanner could, with the help of daylight, detect the raindrops on the glass, something her previously favourite Canon scanners never accomplished. Moreover, the raindrops reflect the immediate surroundings where Jannemarein was working, adding a sudden realistic and figurative touch to her otherwise very abstract results. When water entered one of the scanners, which broke down, this resulted in more dramatic, strikingly brightly coloured images, which changed the scanner into a creative partner.
