Kenyan artist Jackie Karuti presents Exquisite Corpse, a print series that plays with perspective, transformation and the blurred boundaries between the familiar and the strange.
The title refers to the Surrealist game Exquisite Corpse, in which participants collaboratively create an image or text without knowing what the others have contributed. The resulting creatures are fragmented yet strangely coherent,, reminding us of the infinite possibilities through which matter, identity and meaning can be reshaped. The series is presented in its entirety, from the original drawings laid out on the bench structure to the prints and the resulting newsprint, revealing the different stages of transformation that the initial matrix undergoes.
