A sculptural object in which glass takes on the appearance of a fluid, organic form. Pieke Bergmans allows the material to seemingly expand and flow: a soft, voluminous base supports an upward-facing, funnel-like form. Its subtle pale blue tint and highly polished surface enhance the sense of movement and fluidity.
The work brings together weight and lightness, mass and transparency, control and spontaneity. While glass is generally associated with hardness and fragility, here it takes on an almost tactile, elastic quality. The surface catches the light, continually changing in relation to its surroundings.
In her work, Bergmans explores the possibilities and properties of glass. By shaping the material through mouth-blowing, she creates a unique sculpture in which the movement of the making process remains visible.
