KIMBALL GUNNAR HOLTH, Ferry, 2026
As in many of his works, 'Ferry' also shows that Kimball Gunnar Holth suddenly stopped working and left the canvas as it was. He then gives it an unexpected twist.
In ‘Ferry’, the bottom side of the canvas is not stretched, but is used as a place for text. The handwritten narrative in the first person makes the canvas an embodiment of a personal experience: '“The other day, when I took the ferry across the channel, there was a white cloud overhead, and a darker one in the distance'.
A number of 'Flap Paintings', such as the one pictured here, will be shown for the first time at Art Island 2026. This fair takes place from May 22 to 24, 2026, at Fort IJmuiden.
