The Ultimate
The Salzbergbahn in Hallstatt connects the village with the Salzberg, home to the salt mine and the Skywalk. The funicular takes around two minutes to make the journey and functions as a compact tourist infrastructure that transports visitors up and down at a steady pace. This simple movement reveals a broader shift.
Here, the mountain is not merely a geographical elevation, but also a place steeped in history and economic significance: an area linked to salt mining for some 7,000 years and today primarily consumed as a destination, a view and an experience. The video work focuses on that pendulum-like movement as an image of a place where exploitation, heritage and tourism merge. The cabin transports people, but at the same time organises their relationship with the landscape.
