The Descent of Inanna (Akkadian: Ishtar) is a
famous Mesopotamian myth in which the goddess of love and war descends into the underworld to defy her sister, Ereshkigal. She loses her power at seven gates, dies, but is restored by Enki, after which she sends her husband Dumuzi as her replacement.
