Book as object
It is difficult to describe my “sketchbooks”. In fact, they are not sketchbooks, but rather each book is an object.
Because I constantly have so many images in my head, I want to make them concrete in paintings or works on paper. To bring a little order to that multitude.
There is always the pursuit of an autonomous painting. That remains difficult. Both a complete image and a complete object.
On paper, I work faster and more freely. More liberated and relaxed. Bound together in a book, each page edited, the whole becomes an object.
An object that I can carry under my arm.
There is still a pile of loose ends waiting to be dealt with.

As with the series of paintings, in which each work has a fixed place in the whole, each book is a single work of art in which the carefully selected pages are inextricably linked in a specific order.
All photographs from both artist's books are available.
