From 2 to 4 October, Art on Paper returns to Tour & Taxis in Brussels. The international fair is dedicated entirely to art on paper and brings together sixty galleries that present work ranging from Old Masters to contemporary art. Drawing, painting, collage and printmaking are shown side by side here, highlighting the versatility of paper as an artistic medium. This year’s participants include three GalleryViewer galleries: ROOF-A Gallery, NQ Gallery and Marieke Severens Gallery.
Rotterdam-based ROOF-A Gallery presents recent and new work by Naré Eloyan, Juliette Minchin, Charlotte Schleiffert and Aline Thomassen. For her series "Hydromancies", Minchin works with materials like soot, burnt Sicilian wood, Armenian pigment, water and wax. In this process, she allows the water to play a significant role in determining the final image.
In the booth of NQ Gallery from Antwerp, you get a chance to see work by Alexandra Duprez, Samuel Sarmiento and Anne Griffiths. Venezuelan artist Samuel Sarmiento, who currently lives and works in Aruba, draws on Caribbean storytelling traditions in his work, while exploring themes such as migration and identity.
Marieke Severens Gallery from Maastricht presents work by Dorine van der Ploeg, Sjaak Korsten, Marta & Slava and Jo Frenken. That last artist creates conceptual work that is clearly informed by his background in architecture and his many years of experience with printmaking techniques and artists’ books.
Alongside the gallery presentations, the fair also hosts an extensive talks programme: ‘Conversations at ArtOnPaper’. Throughout the weekend, several artists, curators, researchers, gallerists and publishers will come together to discuss a variety of topics, including exhibiting and collecting works on paper, drawing in the digital age, artists’ editions and alternative ways of circulating art.
