Until 28 October, a solo exhibition by Alice Janne will be on display At Eva Steynen.Deviation(s) in Antwerp. With this exhibition, the Belgian artist is presenting her first solo show at the gallery. Janne lives and works in Brussels, where she earned a master's degree in visual arts from ERG (School of Graphic Research). In addition, she has developed her skills in the fields of game development, 3D painting, and Virtual and Augmented Reality — elements that are prominently reflected in her practice, effectively blurring the boundaries between various media, as well as between the real and the virtual.
Janne's practice is characterised by a minimalist approach, encompassing sculptures, works on paper and virtual 3D animations. Her artworks almost serve as a kind of 'scientific pop art' or 'archaeology of the present,' transforming small found objects and pieces of paper into larger works of art. These items, found on the streets, are meticulously categorised in a database based on shape, colour and time, allowing them to lose their original context and transform into new, colourful sculptures and works on paper. In essence, her works investigate the evolution of our consumer society through the traces we leave behind. Additionally, she utilises materials such as pigmented plaster, wood, clay, plastic and concrete.
Janne's work has been included in the private art collection of the esteemed collector Alain Servais. The artist has exhibited her work at the art fairs Supermarket and Art on Paper Brussels, as well as at the Centre Wallonie Bruxelles in Paris, Bozar in Brussels, and Le Delta in Namur. In 2012, she was the proud recipient of the Audience Award at the Concours Médiatine Art Libre, and in 2014, she was selected for the Prix de la Jeune Sculpture presented by the Federation Wallonia-Brussels.
