Visit the galleries between 6 and 9 p.m. and from 9 p.m. everyone is welcome at the MoMu Fashion Museum to visit the 'Mirror Mirror - Mode & de Pysche' exhibition, which explores the connection between fashion, psychology, self-image and identity, and 'Exploding Fashion: From 2D to 3D to 3D animation', an exhibition that offers insight into the role of the pattern maker in 20th-century fashion, thereby challenging the myth of the fashion designer as an exclusive creative genius. This is followed by a festive closing with DJ Bayny. So take the train, car or bicycle and head to the bustling art city.
Zeno X Gallery in Antwerp south is currently showing an exhibition with work by Mounira Al Solh (1978, Beirut) who lives and works in Lebanon and the Netherlands. Mounira Al Solh's paintings, drawings, performances, textile works, videos and installations reveal the history and experiences of her large family and her community. The personal stories are often closely intertwined with the political situation: Al Solh's work reflects on themes such as migration, identity, language, trauma and feminism. Many of her projects are rooted in a collaborative and socially engaged practice. Al Solh attempts to visualize the oral history of individuals through numerous conversations with migrants from the Middle East and North Africa about the impact of the conflicts in their region and displacement caused by the social and political upheaval, war and oppression. For other projects, she invites women from various backgrounds to engage with her practice through crafts or personal stories.
The 'Slice of Life' exhibition by Willem de Haan will open at Pizza Galleryon 2 December between 7:00 pm and 10:30 pm. The only thing we can say about it: 'Nothing seems coincidental in 'Slice of Life'. This new series depicts daily life in its most artificial form.'
At Everyday Gallery: Carolin Gieszner (1989, DE) and Théo Demans (1991, FR) work together as the dynamic duo touche-touche. They are part of a 'nouvelle vague' of young artists who like to make functional installations with a twist. Since 2018, the duo has made an international name for themselves with their immersive scenographies, which have been exhibited in art institutions such as Haus der Kunst in Munich, the Bonnefanten Museum and Stedelijk Museum.
Galerie Zeit has its origins in selecting and carefully curating works and objects by artists from different time periods, some with name and fame, while others - unjustly disappeared - over time. On December 3, the exhibition 'Hard Edge Soft Cell' opens with work by three young artists Ilse Pierard, Myriam Vangenechten, Kees van de Wal, as well as with work by Guy Vandenbranden (1926-2014) and Andreas Biront who designs 3D-printed chairs. The press release reads: 'Some play it hard, others play it soft, but what connects them all is their love of colour, shape and structure. And that is exactly why we love them.”
Eva Steynen. Deviation(s)shows a new series of collages and large oil paintings on canvas by Diane Bogaerts which refer to the changeability of nature and the transience of our existence. The human body is abstracted as part of nature, represented in a game of lines and grey, brown and black coloured areas. There is no contact or communication with other beings. Only nature seems to be able to offer solace.
