TORCH gallery is excited to present "The Planets", a new exhibition by Dutch artist Woody van Amen, running from 29 August to 10 October 2026.
In this new and exciting exhibition, van Amen recasts the planets of our solar system as the forces that actually orbit contemporary life. A single crouching figure, rendered again and again in shifting colours, braces beneath a sphere in each canvas — a Bitcoin coin, a mine-like satellite, a missile, and a football — as if holding up the sky.
Playful in palette and mythic in pose, the series is Van Amen's own cosmology of the twenty-first century: money, technology, conflict, and spectacle, reimagined as the planets we now orbit.
The series continues the artist's longstanding interest in symbols, repetitions, transformations, and the relationship between everyday objects and larger cultural and social forces.
