andriesse~eyck gallery is delighted to present some well-known gallery artists at the upcoming edition of Art Rotterdam.
Interested in our relationship with animals, Charlotte Dumas decided to look at the different aspects of the complicated and often exploitative history related to the use of elephants and their ivory. Although small in size, these black and white photographs relay a powerful message in favor of the gentle giants.
Next to Dumas’ intimate photographs, we show Diana Scherer’s botanical textiles. Following the success of her solo exhibition in Museum Kranenburgh, we are delighted to introduce a new name to the fair. The artist studies plants and root systems to guide their "natural" growth processes. In her studio, she creates artificial biotopes to grow her root-art using soil, seeds, light and underground templates of both natural and man-made patterns. The roots follow these patterns and from there the work grows itself.
Sylvie Zijlmans & Hewald Jongenelis are a well-established artist duo, who will be represented with their newest paintings. They developed an artistic interaction in which the two intuitively responded to each other's actions on the canvas, challenging each other to push beyond the familiar solution; with no preconceived concept. The result is a series of autonomous paintings in a direct and poetic visual language.
Last but not least, we show two works by Koen Taselaar – a tapestry and a sculpture. This light-hearted and sometimes absurdist approach is characteristic of Taselaar's artistry. He quotes and combines, elaborates his ideas on paper or in the computer, and translates them into various materials. Taselaar is particularly interested in how images are constructed and how new meanings are created by bringing things together in slightly different time-space relationships.
We Look forward to meeting you at Art Rotterdam!
