Galerie Ron Mandos presents Esther Tielemans, Katina Lampe and Troika at Art Rotterdam 2019
Galerie Ron Mandos will present new works by Esther Tielemans, Katina Lampe and Troika at Art Rotterdam 2019. These artists have in common that they draw you in with their seductive use of materials and colors: soft pastels, saturated hues and alluring gradients. But once their works have caught your attention, they reveal a surprising disruptiveness, asking urgent questions about society and prompting discussions. What you see is not always what you get.
Esther Tielemans
Galerie Ron Mandos recently started representing Esther Tielemans: at Art Rotterdam 2019, the gallery will show her work for the first time. Starting from a fascination with landscapes, the artist is interested in the fundaments of painting. Her works slowly became more abstract and evolved into three-dimensional constellations, their glossy surfaces reflecting observers and their surroundings. These reflections evoke dreams and memories, in which the boundaries between reality and imagination fade away.
Katinka Lampe
Katinka Lampe explores questions of identity and origin. Inspired by the diversity on the streets of her home town Rotterdam and by Herman Pleij’s writings on identity, her new series of portraits takes on questions of appropriation, shared history and lived experience. Lush in tonality, the works stay true to the artist’s ethereal style of portraiture. Lampe: ‘My goal is to make connections. I want to question, unsettle, move, and comfort.’
Troika
The London-based collective Troika is formed by Eva Rucki, Conny Freyer and Sebastien Noel. Galerie Ron Mandos will show new works that are closely connected to their large-scale installation Borrowed Light, currently on view at The Barbican, London. Taking colorful gradients on photographic film as a starting point, Troika’s work demands the active perception of the viewer. The artists are interested in the ways in which the digital world informs and crosses over into the physical one.
Galerie Ron Mandos can be found at booth 36 of the Main Section. Work by Esther Tielemans can also be found at the Now/Forever Section. Art Rotterdam is open to the public from 7 until 10 February. For more information about tickets and times, please visit artrotterdam.com.
