Thought and Feeling Marvels:
Maureen Bachaus and Wanda Tuerlinckx
At UNSEEN 2021 Art Gallery O-68 presents photos of people and robots, humans built of blood and flesh and their reflection, or counterpart, in hardware and software.
The work of Maureen Bachaus exemplifies the human psyche, the freedom of expression, the human identity. Core questions are: who are you, and how did you become who you are? Is your identity your own free choice or is this determined by your genes, country, religion, family, or government?
Photographer Wanda Tuerlinckx traveled the world with a 140-years old camera to document the robot revolution. It is the human side of robots that appeals to her. The artificial intelligence of robots inspired her to look deeper into the creative possibilities that AI offers in the field of image processing. At UNSEEN 2021 Wanda shows a photograph of the robot Ai-Da, and using the Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) algorithm, symbiotic fusions with her robotic portraits. The resulting eight head shots are an amalgamation across time, gender, style, and human form.
