In 2012, Kristof De Clercq opened the doors of his gallery a stone's throw from the historic heart of Ghent. The gallery promotes Belgian and foreign emerging and mid- career artists through solo and group exhibitions in the gallery, and a strong presence at international art fairs. In addition, the gallery manages several estates. The gallery mainly shows abstract drawing and painting, but also sculptures, photography, video and installation art. The gallery space is located in a green oasis in the centre of the city and offers a place where art lovers, artists, art professionals and collectors can meet each other in peace and quiet. The garden forms a central and connecting element between the public and the more private part of the gallery.
During Art Brussels 2020, Kristof De Clercq gallery brings together the work of several artists represented by the gallery: Veerle Beckers (1976, Belgium), Mario De Brabandere (1963, Belgium), Johan De Wit (1960, Belgium), Agnes Maes (1942, Belgium), Peter Morrens (1965, Belgium), Jeff McMillan (1968, US), Thomas Müller (1959, Germany), Jürgen Partenheimer (1947, Germany) and Tuukka Tammisaari (1984, Finland).
Through our presentation, we will generate contrasts and tensions between the (almost) monochrome and the vibrantly colorful works, between paintings that are almost sculptures and objects that seem to be paintings, between the sober and subtle and the playful and flamboyant. The result is a tasteful potpourri of works circling around abstraction, filling the air with the scent of the gallery.
