Art Rotterdam 2020 – Livingstone Gallery
A curated show titled Berlin Projects with Daniele Galliano (IT), Ruri Matsumoto (J/DE), Raquel Maulwurf (ES/NL), Aaron van Erp (NL/PY), Jan Wattjes (NL) and guest artist, winner of the 2019 Berlin Prize, Berend Strik (NL).
In the spring of 2014 Jeroen Dijkstra, director of Livingstone Gallery initiated a pilot-project in Berlin (Prenzlauer Berg) named Livingstone Projects. Working with a reversed exhibition concept, the artist enters an empty space with only a plan for a project and ends up with a collection of work when they leave the residency. This collection is then shown on the spot as an open studio or at another location; a gallery, museum or art fair.
From 2016 onwards gallery directors, curators and other art professionals were invited to propose an artist for a project in Berlin. This resulted in an impressive list of 18 participating artists over the past 5 years a.o. Long-Bin Chen (courtesy Frederieke Taylor Gallery, New York), Kim Habers (courtesy Lang Art, Amsterdam), Frank Ammerlaan (courtesy Upstream Gallery, Amsterdam and Jeannette ten Kate, The Art Connector) and Aaron Van Erp (courtesy Tim van Laere Gallery, Antwerp).
For Art Rotterdam we selected 6 artists who were able to reflect the inspirational city of Berlin in the most original way, including Berend Strik who won our 2019 Berlin Prize.
