‘Floral Still lifes’ - from 2000 to 2025
Smulders creates theatrical still lifes that explore the possibilities of
beauty and chaos. Her floral arrangements—staged on mirrors
submerged in water—create ecosystems of play and splendor.
The dynamic interactions of color, reflection, and depth construct a
floral embodiment of human narratives. Inspired by
Greek mythology and eco-feminism, Smulders treats each composition as a miniature society: vibrant, fragile, and defiantly alive.
