Six of us lived in our M3. Me, my brother, my parents, my grandma, and
grandpa. April 4, 1989, was a unique and mysterious date in the history of
our family.
That day, my father had a car accident. He ripped off his entire eyebrow.
I have this image in my head of him lying on the couch with that missing
eyebrow and it was very strange to me. Two more things happened that same day. My brother was crawling in his rompers on the outside of the windowsill. And it was the 8th floor.
At a critical moment, he was grabbed by our mother. In the evening, my
grandfather went to visit a friend who lived on Graniczna Street, also in
the Żelazna Brama block. He was supposed to pick up the eggs. They
talked. Suddenly he had a heart attack and died. Grandpa apparently
smoked a lot. A ghost appears in the painting to symbolize guilt. My father once told me about this feeling.
That his accident might have upset his grandfather. Interestingly, when
my father recently had a heart attack, I wondered if it was because some
unexpected things were happening in my life at that time.
