Kevin encourages us to reflect on the traces we leave behind as humanity. For example, technological innovations or cultural achievements can be viewed positively as a form of progress. In contrast, traces such as environmental damage, wars or political oppression are a form of destruction. How do we determine whether the traces we leave behind are positive or negative? How much influence do we actually have on the legacy we leave behind? The works Bauer shows do not serve the purpose of providing a direct answer to these questions. Instead, he shapes his thoughts by imagining what might be recovered from the present era in the distant future.
