Johannes Ulrich Kubiak's works on paper are beautiful, playful and complex. They are revealing and concealing mysterious spheres through thousands of brushstrokes. Through structure and transparency, Kubiak develops a spaciousness, a fragmented surface that obtains pictorial depth due to the varying density of the colours.
The paintings are made lying down, based on pencil drawings that disappear during the process. He uses a minimum of colours, white, cyan, magenta and yellow that are mixed into intense shades of red, green, purple, brown or blue. In fields of colour, thousands little streams seam to disrupt, creating new constellations.
J.U.Kubiak has exhibited solo and group exhibitions in Germany, the U.S., Austria, France and Belgium. His work was recently on view a.o. Galerie Borssenanger, Chemnitz (D), Luxembourg Art Week (LU), Art Rotterdam (NL), BLMK, Cottbus (D). His work is held in several private and institutional collections, including Deutsche Bank, Bundesbank, Kunstsammlung Sachsen and Berlinische Galerie.
