Pink Slime Caesar Shift is a video integrating live action and animation, whose premise is four proposals to alter the DNA of mass-produced in-vitro hamburgers to carry secret messages of labor insurrection on behalf of Special Economic Zone factory workers in China. The video identifies four feasible methods to embed messages in genetic material: chemical transformation with bioluminescent marker, microinjection, shooting with gene gun, and viral infection. But key to the video is connecting the speculative proposal and scientific methods to the lived realities of factory workers: via appropriated texts from labor activist manuals, science equipment advertisements, and documentary recordings to elucidate the legal, environmental, emotional and worker safety concerns surrounding factory labor today.
