'Routinely Risking Destruction for the Sake of Narrow Gains' began as a site-specific work which used piano-string, oscillators, and specially adapted transducers to convert a subterranean object made from structural steel into large resonant crane/instrument. Through spectral analysis, the resonant audio frequencies of the steel were charted in order to harmonically tune the strings and oscillators. Once tuned, the structure would essentially 'play itself' from long-form self-generating compositions based on constructive and destructive interference. Subsequent to the initial experimentation and exhibition of the work, a portable version of the piece was build. This version has been used for a number of concerts, architectural interventions, and further experimentation.
