Conceptual artist Daan den Houter is also known for his ice paintings. When exhibited, these paintings consist of frozen paint. They slowly melt, eventually forming a pool of paint on the floor and leaving a trail
on the wall. The paintings transform in form and colour throughout their existence. Different colours layered on top of one another, the transparency of the layers, and the viscosity of the paint all contribute to
the final image and the transformation of the melting painting: a painting that instantly turns into a
memory.
Den Houter has created new Lambda photo prints of his ice paintings.
Lambda photo prints, mounted on Plexiglas, are cut out as if they were ice paintings. A frozen moment, too, with which he questions—perhaps even undermines—his concept.
