The work investigates social inequalities by referencing monument-type artworks. Through its scale and technique, it alludes to the processes of selection and representation typically involved in the creation of public monuments. The project is based on identifying the social issue of homelessness, and by choosing an object that is universally recognizable, it highlights how such an object—while not considered a luxury item for most people—can, in certain contexts, make the difference between life and death. The small acts of unconsciousness and indifference we display in situations where a simple gesture could alter the course of an individual’s life represent active participation in crimes against humanity.
