Babs Haenen (Amsterdam, 1948) is een toonaangevend Nederlands keramisch kunstenaar, bekend om haar expressieve, schilderachtige benadering van porselein. Na een eerste carrière als danseres studeerde ze keramiek aan de Gerrit Rietveld Academie, waar ze zich ontwikkelde tot een vormgever met een volstrekt eigen signatuur. Haar achtergrond in dans blijft voelbaar in haar werk: elk object lijkt te bewegen, te ademen — een bevroren choreografie van kleur, lijn en vorm.
Haenen werkt met gekleurde porseleinschijven die ze knipt, vouwt en assembleert tot sculpturale vormen. Haar keramiek balanceert tussen toegepaste kunst en abstracte schilderkunst: ze schildert als het ware met klei. Inspiratie haalt ze uit textielpatronen, natuurlijke landschappen en de rijke Chinese keramiektraditie, waaronder de grillige scholar’s rocks. In haar werk komen organische vormen en verstilde verfijning samen; het nodigt uit tot aandachtig kijken én voelen.
Vanaf de jaren 2000 richt Haenen zich steeds meer op monumentale sculpturen, architectonische toepassingen en installaties. Naast autonoom werk maakt ze ook wandobjecten, tegels en behang voor publieke en particuliere ruimtes. Haar oeuvre is internationaal erkend en opgenomen in toonaangevende collecties.
