Het werk van multi-media kunstenaar Anna Ostoya registreert de polsslag van de actualiteit vanuit het bewustzijn dat heden en verleden elkaar als het ware voortdurend beïnvloeden en bepalen. Een belangrijk deel van haar werk is de constructie van een systeem van begrippen en verwijzingen die het verleden met het heden en de toekomst verbinden. Ze onderzoekt de strategieën van de historische avant-garde en de echo van deze stromingen in onze tijd, zoals ze geweld of de ondergewaardeerde rol van vrouwen in de kunstgeschiedenis onder de loep neemt. Of het nu fotomontages, collages, installaties, sculpturen of schilderijen zijn, de composities van Ostoya stellen tegenstellingen als die tussen figuratie en abstractie, originaliteit en kopie, Oost-Europa en West-Europa, esthetiek en politiek, op scherp. Schoonheid is daarbij een ‘tool’ en Ostoya schuwt niet om die in te zetten om haar visie op grote thema’s te verbeelden.

Anna Ostoya (1978, Krakow, Polen) studeerde aan de Parsons School of Art and Design in Parijs en aan de Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main. Van 2008 tot 2009 nam ze deel aan het Whitney Independent Study Program in New York. Ze maakt werk in uiteenlopende media: fotomontages, collages, installaties, sculpturen en schilderijen. Haar fotomontages en collages werden getoond in ‘New Photography 2013' in het Museum of Modern Art, New York. Haar werk was te zien in belangrijke internationale tentoonstellingen als de Biënnale van Lyon (2015), de Tweede Biënnale van Athene (2009) en Manifesta 7, in Rovereto (2008). Ze had solo-presentaties in onder andere: Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warschau (2017-2018), La Kunsthalle Mulhouse (2014); Foksal Gallery, Warschau (2010); Centrum Sztuki Współczesnej Kronika, Bytom (2010). Haar werk is vertegenwoordigd in openbare en privé-collecties in binnen- en buitenland.
