De grote schilderijen en intieme tekeningen van Caroline Walker hebben vrouwen in psychologisch geladen openbare ruimtes, zoals hotels en schoonheidssalons, als onderwerp. Als oeuvre suggereren haar schilderijen een groter verhaal dat nooit volledig met de toeschouwer wordt gedeeld. Het centrale thema in Walkers werk is de menselijke conditie in een postmoderne en ongevoelige wereld. Dat thema belicht ze in een soort filmische vertelling door te werken met fotoshoots op locatie, waarbij ze samen met de modellen scenes bedenkt en uitwerkt. Deze foto’s vormen vervolgens weer het bronmateriaal voor haar technisch verfijnde schilderijen. Walkers intieme scènes bouwen voort op het narratief van het stadsleven en getuigen van een uitgesproken voyeuristische blik. Haar rustige en doorgaans luxueuze ruimtes, vertellen half uitgewerkte verhalen die de traditionele ideeën over de vrouw als onderwerp compliceren. De werken onderzoeken vrouwelijkheid in ons moderne en beeld-bewuste tijdperk.
