Paul Wallach maakt wandsculpturen. Het zijn intieme en poëtische werken die spelen met zwaartekracht, materiaal en suspensie. Zijn wandsculpturen zijn voornamelijk samengesteld uit diverse maar eenvoudige materialen zoals gips, hout, glas, canvas, verf, papier en staal, die zo met elkaar worden verbonden dat er een evenwichtige spanning ontstaat. Hout staat vaak centraal in het werk van Wallach en dient als ondersteunend mechanisme voor de hangende constructies. Wallach creëert eenheid tussen zijn werk en de omringende ruimte door afwezigheid: zorgvuldig georkestreerde gaten in zijn structuren zorgen voor vrije beweging van de ruimte binnen en rond de werken, waardoor de grenzen tussen binnen en buiten vervagen.

Paul Wallach werd geboren in New York in 1960. Hij studeerde kunst aan de universiteit van Wisconsin en toegepaste kunst aan de universiteit van Boston, waarna hij voor een jaar naar Florence verhuisde om te wonen en te werken. Bij zijn terugkeer naar Amerika ontving hij een fellowship in Visual Arts van de Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, voordat hij eind jaren tachtig drie jaar als assistent van Mark di Suvero werkte. Wallach verbleef twee jaar in Düsseldorf en woont en werkt sinds 1994 in Parijs. Zijn werk is op tal van tentoonstellingen in Europa en Amerika te zien geweest en internationaal verzameld. In 1995 vond zijn tentoonstelling Present Tense plaats in het Museum Folkwang in Essen, Duitsland. In 2002 was de tentoonstelling Reason and Rhyme te zien in het Gemeentemuseum in Den Haag. Hij nam deel aan de World Trade Center Memorial Competition in 2003 en in 2007 naam hij deel aan het residency-programma van de Josef and Anni Albers Foundation. In het Musée d'Art Modern Saint Etienne in Frankrijk was in 2014 zijn tentoonstelling Where What Was te zien. Het monumentale buitenwerk Down to the Ground is in 2018 gemaakt in opdracht van de Salzburg Foundation.
