Rotterdam-based visual artist Dineke Versluis moves between documentary photography and studio practice. What begins as a careful observation of where people live, work and spend their leisure time, later becomes material for transformation.
During her trips she looks for quiet scenes, often devoid of human activity, to create clean and clear images with strong colours. The ones that bring her most joy have an element of surprise in them, a lightness or a sense of humour.
In her studio she reshapes her photographs through precise yet playful interventions into new compositions. By layering and combining images from different bodies of work she makes new connections and changes perspective.
