Katarzyna Baldyga (b. 1988, Poland) is a painter based in Amsterdam and Dresden. She has lived in the Netherlands since 2018 and graduated from the DOGtime Expanded Painting programme at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2024. She further expanded her practice through engagement with the New Leipzig School during her time in Leipzig. In 2027, she begins a two-year residency at the Rijksakademie.
Baldyga’s practice explores painting as an unstable and transformative medium. Through layered paintings and provisional maquettes, she creates imagined, half-remembered worlds that exist between inner landscapes and external realities. Her compositions emerge through an intuitive process in which material, gesture, and chance shape environments where forms continuously appear, dissolve, and transform. Painting becomes a space of contradiction—simultaneously revealing and concealing, physical and illusionistic, controlled and unpredictable. Through shifting perspectives and richly layered surfaces, her works invite viewers into open-ended, emotionally charged spaces.
Recent exhibitions include Movement with the OFFO collective (Amsterdam, 2026), Bedrock at Young Collectors Circle (Amsterdam, 2025), Art Rotterdam with Galerie Ron Mandos (Rotterdam, 2025), Amsterdam Art Week: Open Studio (Amsterdam, 2025), State of Art at Stichting Tiny V (Arnhem, 2024), Best of Graduates 2024 at Galerie Ron Mandos (Amsterdam, 2024), and the Graduation Show at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie (Amsterdam, 2024). Her work is held in the collections of Museum Voorlinden, Collectie Rijksoverheid, and Stichting Tiny V.
